Summer Research Scholars

Overview

ANCAAR regularly hosts a small number of Summer Research Scholars as interns during summer. The internships are sponsored by the ANU Research School of Accounting.

Applications are open to any current ANU student (UG or PG, including students expecting to complete their bachelors or masters programs in Semester 2 of the relevant year) who has completed or is currently undertaking an accounting major. Applicants should have a strong academic record, have a good work ethic, and be capable of working co-operatively in teams. It is usually required that applicants have completed a university course in auditing during their studies.

The internship

The duration of the internship is 10 working weeks from the beginning December to mid February (the University is closed between Christmas and New Year).  As part of the program, ANCAAR Summer Research Interns are required to attend the Annual ANCAAR Audit Research Forum (at ANU) on the first Friday and Saturday of December.

Summer Research Scholars must commit to working full-time on campus (in RAS) during normal office hours for the duration of the program. Scholars normally work as part of a team, in shared offices provided by the Research School of Accounting.

Summer Research Scholars receive a stipend of $500 per week. This is usually paid in two lump-sum instalments (50% at the beginning and 50% half way through, conditional on performance; the maximum value is $5,000 per student).

Details of intern projects are not available in advance. All necessary information is provided to successful applicants at the commencement of the program.

All decisions regarding the scope of projects and the assignment of scholars to projects are made by the Director of ANCAAR.
